Caring for Our Community

May is here and it's one of our favorite times of year! There is so much to do for our communities. Time to spring into action and get involved!

May is here and it is one of our favorite times of the year here at United Way of Franklin County! We are hosting two of our signature events this month – Learn and Play Day and May of Caring. We will engage with hundreds of volunteers, community members, vendors and fellow nonprofit organizations between both events.

May of Caring kicks off on May 1st and runs through May 13th and is a call to action for volunteers to improve the quality of life in our community. United Way of Franklin County coordinates caring for our community by connecting volunteers to meaningful human service projects across Franklin County; a great way to connect employees or a group of friends, families, and neighbors to engage in giving back to our community. The projects can range from landscaping and other outdoor projects to painting walls and fixing up interiors with all kinds of projects in between.

This year we will be coordinating volunteers for 19 projects at 15 different organizations. Roughly 200 volunteers will be sent out into the community to support these projects. We always enjoy hearing back from the individual volunteers and volunteer groups about how much they appreciate the opportunity to learn more about our local community through May of Caring.

On Saturday, May 6 we are excited to bring or annual Learn & Play Day back to the community again this year. This event takes place at LifePoint Church from 10am-2pm and will feature a day of fun for the whole family. This is a FREE family event including kids’ activities, games, crafts, story times, inflatables, door prizes, and so much more. Community vendors will also be on hand to share information with families about local resources and services for children.

In addition to the activities listed above, kids will also be able to enjoy a scavenger hunt, sensory exploration station, a snack shack, Touch-A-Truck, and more! Please help us spread the word by sharing this flyer with your friends and family.

We hope to see you at one of these upcoming events and if you didn’t get a chance to sign up to volunteer for May of Caring or Learn & Play Day, have no fear because we have a Volunteer Hub with a variety of opportunities and you are sure to find something that interests you.
