Holding true to our organization’s vision and values, we ask for you to mobilize with us in pursuit of an equitable, respectful, and opportunity-filled community for all.
Dear Franklin County community,
I know I am not alone in finding myself deeply saddened by the awful events taking place in our country. The incidents and reactions related to the violent murder of George Floyd, along with recent killings of Ahmaud Arbrey, Breonna Taylor, and countless others, have exposed our society’s underlying racism, prejudice, and privilege. These inequities impact all of us, preventing too many people from achieving their full potential.
At United Way of Franklin County, we know these are not isolated incidents, and we know that change starts in our own community.
"We need for everyone to have a voice, and to feel safe and effective in the use of that voice.”
Since the beginnings of our organization, UWFC has driven positive change across Franklin County by bringing people together. Nonprofits, corporations, government, and individuals have come to the table, working through differences to address problems related to childcare, education, income disparity, and health. We believe that community challenges are only sustainably resolved when perspectives are brought together to advance a movement. For this to happen we need diverse talent. We need for everyone to have a voice, and to feel safe and effective in the use of that voice.
To people of all backgrounds and identities, we must all do our part to make our community safe and just – for everyone. Everyone must participate in civil conversations, open yourself to the perspectives of others, and call out discrimination and injustices. There is too much division in our country right now, so let us pursue an equitable community while showing kindness and compassion for one another. We must stand in solidarity.
"Let us pursue an equitable community while showing kindness and compassion for one another. We must stand in solidarity."
Holding true to our organization’s vision and values, we ask for you to mobilize with us in pursuit of an equitable, respectful, and opportunity-filled community for all. We invite you to reach out to get involved in our work and share your voice. It is past time for Franklin County to prioritize and expand dialogue on matters that have hindered quality of life for many of our neighbors, including racism and systemic injustices.
The staff and volunteers of UWFC are committed to equity in our community. We are committed to ongoing learning, dialogue, and growth – as individuals and as an organization. We are committed to making Franklin County the best it can be.
We hope you will join with us in that commitment.
Sincerely,
Amy Hicks
